Publishing one standard rate for copywriting is a difficult asking given the variation of scope for each potential job. To provide an accurate estimate, I would need to have substantial information on your individual requirements.
However, as someone who also likes to be informed of as many details as possible upfront, I completely understand that this might be frustrating if you’re just after for a rough idea of how much you’d be looking at to have your project completed with Word Effect Copywriting.
To give you a general indication, my copywriting services would be charged out at approximately $80.00 AUD per hour.
So if you charge per hour how will I know how long my job is likely to take?
Again, this is very hard to narrow down unless I have all the information about your job, however as a rough guide:
Web Copy – each page can take up to 5 hours (based on up to 200 words per page)
Brochures – for 300 words of text, it would take up to 8 hours (including time to liase with your graphic designer/print team)
Editorials/Feature Articles – approximately 10 hours for a 500 word piece
Slogans/Headlines – Short and sweet, this type of job would require 1-2 hours
Now, I’m going to go out on a limb and suggest that you may be thinking ‘How can it take so long to write a bit of copy?’
The answer is because copywriting is an art and as such, a great deal of creativity and time is required to produce top quality results. Copywriting is not simply about getting words on a piece of paper. If it were as easy as that, everyone would be competent enough to do it themselves with guaranteed results for their business. Personally, I’ve seen enough sub-standard advertising material to know this certainly isn’t true.
Beyond an obvious grasp of the English language, great copywriting is a process of understanding, vision and inspired thinking.
